Why You’ll LOVE This Recipe
These cookies are delicious! I seriously made two batch of these in the same week because they disappeared so quickly.
You will also love this recipe because you don’t need butter! Sometimes I will find myself craving a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies but not have any stick of butter in the fridge. This is exactly the recipe to use for these situations!
My warning to you: If you don’t want an absolutely incredible batch of cookies that will quickly be devoured, make something else!
Ingredients
The ingredients for this recipe are pretty standard for chocolate chip cookies, with the slight difference of oil! Because we are not using butter, we need something to act as a replacement. This is where the vegetable oil comes in.
All Purpose Flour: Flour is a pretty basic essential when making cookies. I haven’t tested this recipe with any other four varieties. Be sure to leave a comment down below if you do to share how they turn out!
Baking Soda: This will help the cookies rise.
Baking Powder: Acts as a double-acting leavening agent.
Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds a depth of favor to these cookies.
Sugar: Yes, there’s two types of sugar in this recipe! White sugar provides a light sweetness without too much richness.
Eggs: Try to let the eggs come to room temperature! As soon as you decide to make these cookies, pull them out!
Vegetable Oil: When using oil in cookies you NEED a mild flavored one. You can also use canola oil, but I do not recommend using olive oil.
Vanilla Extract: If you can, use a high quality vanilla extract for best flavor!
Salt: You can use two types of salt for this recipe: regular table salt and flakey salt. I am a sucker for a salty chocolate chip cookie. If you aren’t, skip the flakey salt!
Chocolate Chips: Use semi sweet chocolate chips. I use quite a bit. You can reduce the amount you use without affecting the resulting cookies!
Directions
Making these cookies with oil looks similar to as if you were using butter.
- Start by getting your eggs up to room temperature!
- Mix all the dry ingredients in one bowl.
- Use an electric mixer to combine the sugars, eggs, oil, and vanilla.
- Then, evenly distribute all the chocolate chips (to your heart’s desire).
- Chill
- Bake, salt, and set. Then all you need to do is enjoy!
Expert Tips and Tricks
- The type of pan you use matters. By using a stone pan, you will get a fluffier cookie. if you use a metal pan the cookie will spread a bit more. Resulting in a thinner cookie.
- Don’t squish the cookie dough. When scooping cookie dough onto the pan don’t flatten it. Leave it in the rounded shape to help keep them thicker!
- Sprinkle some thick sea salt or flakey salt immediately after taking the cookies out of the oven. This may be a personal preference but I see a salty chocolate chip cookie as top tier!
- Put a slice or two of bread in the container you are storing your cookies in. This will help them stay soft overnight.
A Word From A Registered Dietitian
Cookies are often seen as a bad food. There may be some not-so-nutrient-dense ingredients in cookies, but that doesn’t mean they should be described as bad!
Baking a batch of cookies builds memories. Trying out a new recipe can be an experience. Chocolate chip cookies create smiles and joy. So no, these cookies aren’t nutrient dense, but they have so many other benefits.
Make a batch of these cookies and see how the experience feels.
