When To Make Chocolate Chip Donuts
Who needs an occasion to make donuts!? Well, if you do need a reason how about one of these:
- A weekday
- A weekend
- The day ends in Y
I know I found a reason in there for me!
Ingredients to Make Chocolate Chip Donut Recipe
You need less ingredients for these Chocolate Chip Donuts than you’d expect!
The main ingredient to ensure you have prior to baking are mini chocolate chips. Other than that, you’d be surprised how close you are to making a batch of baked donuts!
You’ll also need all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil.
Of course you’ll also need a donut pan! This pan is a necessity! It keeps the donuts in the proper shape. Trust me, once you make one batch you’ll be addicted and be making baked donuts every week!
How to Make Chocolate Chip Donuts
Making donuts at home may seem intimidating, but let’s make them together and make sure they come out delicious!
I always start by ensuring I have all my ingredients. Gather everything you’ll need to make sure you aren’t having to make a trip to the store mid-recipe!
Once you know you have everything, get your oven preheating and spray your donut pan with a non-stick spray.
Now, in a medium bowl combine your flour, baking powder, and sugar. Then, mix in the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil. Now, add in your mini chocolate chips. Mix it so they are just incorporated. If you over-mix, the batter will become too thin and they will sink to the bottom of the donuts!
Lastly, bake for 12-13 minutes. Let them cool a bit, and enjoy!
Expert Tips and Tricks When Making Chocolate Chip Donut
This recipe is pretty lenient. By that I mean you can make some tweaks without it changing the outcome too much! But, through trial and error I have found that using mini chocolate chips is the only way to have chocolate evenly distributed throughout the donut.
Regular chocolate chips are too heavy. While the donuts are baking they will sink to the bottom. The donuts will still taste delicious, it’s just that they’ll all be on one side!
In addition to using mini chocolate chips to prevent sinkage, be sure to not overtax the batter. By overtaxing, the batter becomes thin. This will allow the chocolate chips to sink more easily!
If you only have regular chocolate chips but still want the chocolate chips to be evenly dispersed, try giving them a rough chop! They may not be as uniform, but if small enough, they won’t sink!
A Word From A Registered Dietitian
You don’t need to make baked donuts as a ‘healthy alternative’ to regular donuts. I love these donuts because they are easy to make in my own oven and I despise having to go through the hassle of frying!
Don’t make this recipe with the mindset of them being better for you. Make them because you want to try a new recipe. Make them because it sounds like a fun type of baked good to make at home. Make them because you WANT to!
Then, once they’re done, ENJOY them because they are tasty!
