What’s In Them?
The main ingredients are dates, dried cherries, and almonds. I added a pinch of cinnamon and salt for a bit of an added flavor boost. Because there are are no additives or any unfavorable ingredients you can trust what you’re eating won’t eat you back! They are chewy and sweet! Don’t attempt this recipe thinking you are making a Nature Valley-esque granola bar. Think of a Lara Bar. They are more *squishy* but still have the occasional crunch from the chopped nuts.
A Gluten-Free Bar
There is actually no grains, helping them to show themselves as Gluten-Free! The main aspect of the recipe is a date. If you never had a date before think of an XXL raisin. Dates are a fruit and are a natural sweetener that make them for the perfect base for an energy bar. They are simple carbs. This means they quickly get exchanged into energy in your body. So, having a Cherry Energy Bar as a pre-workout snack is the perfect way to keep up high energy levels in the gym. Plus- their role as a source of fiber is beneficial as most people are not getting nearly enough throughout their day. Fiber aids in keeping you full and keeping you regular.
Something New
Have you ever made an energy bar before? Unlikely. Instead of your normal baking of cookies and brownies, give energy bars a try. Not only will you be trying something new they’re likely a whole lot better for your health too!
