Expert Tips and Tricks
After testing this recipe a few times I have come up with a few expert tips and tricks to help make the muffins come out delicious:
- Use ripe bananas! The more spots makes for a sweeter banana.
- Remove the muffins just before they are done. Then, allow them to finish cooking on the muffin tin outside of the oven.
- Don’t over-mix the batter.
- If you love the look of a chocolate chip-filled muffin, add additional chocolate chips to the top of batter in the tins prior to putting in the oven.

Additions and Substitutions
No recipe is perfect for everyone! Here are a few additions or substitutions you could use to adjust this recipe to be exactly what you’re hoping for!
- Add nuts or oats for flavor and texture!
- Instead of using half brown sugar and half white sugar, use the full amount of just one of the two.
- Add an additional fruit!
- Try white chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate chips.
- Use a different flour.
Keep in mind, these are just suggestions. These have not been tested.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
If you have a question that hasn’t been answered so far it may be here! If your question remains unanswered leave it in the comments down below and I will get you an answer!
Are these muffins gluten free?
Typically, yes. You do need to be sure your oat flour is guaranteed to be gluten-free. With oats, there is a potential for them to not be gluten-free or for cross-contamination so be cautious!
A Word From A Registered Dietitian
When you hear oat flour do you assume it is healthy? The difference between oat flour and all purpose flour may not be as great as you’d assume!
While both flours have 110 calories in a serving, that is where the similarities end.
| Nutrition (¼c) | Oat Flour | All-Purpose Flour |
| Calories | 110 | 110 |
| Protein | 4g | 3g |
| Carbohydrates | 21g | 23g |
| Dietary Fat | 2g | 0g |
| Fiber | 3g | 1g |
Oat flour has a marginal more amount of protein, dietary fat, and fiber while it is lower in carbohydrates than all-purpose flour.
So, when deciding between the two flours, consider other factors such as if you need it to be gluten-free, preference, and what you have access to!
