Simple Sesame Seed Bagels
For most, COVID-19 quarantine time meant baking an overabundance of banana bread. For me it was the time of experimenting with simple bagel recipes. I found how easy it is to make a delicious batch of homemade bagels with just a few ingredients that I already keep on hand: greek yogurt, all-purpose four, and baking powder. Just by combining these few ingredients you can make the perfect bagel in a matter of minutes. The best part? You can customize them to become your favorite flavor! If this is your first attempt at a homemade bagel, don’t worry. They are SUPER simple. If you aren’t a fan of a sesame seed bagel you can check out my Everything But The Bagel, Bagel recipe here OR if you want to get a little crazy try my White Chocolate Cherry Bagel recipe here.
Bagel Tools
To make these Simple Sesame Seed Bagels you really don’t need many kitchen tools, but it could make it a little easier. The first item is a donut pan. This just helps the bagels keep their shape. You really don’t need one if you are okay with a bagel with no center. You can always just roll your dough into a circle and you’re good to go.
The second tool that will make the recipe a bit easier is a basting brush. Think of it as a paintbrush for a chef. It has silicone bristles making it perfect to brush an egg wash onto the bagels. This way, your bagels have a bit of extra flavor and the toppings will adhere better!
Toppings To Try
So, most people’s go-to bagel topping, correct me if I am wrong, is cream cheese. But, once I tasted this bagel for the first time I knew that wasn’t the move. Then it came to me. HONEY. It is the perfect sweet balance to the density of the bagel.
If you find any other toppings that are perfect for the Simple Sesames Seed Bagel let me know in the comments so I and everyone else can try it too!

Notes
- Although cream cheese is the classic go-to for topping your bagels try this one with honey!
- Store in an air-tight container
- These bagels have no preservatives so they will go bad before bagels you would purchase in a grocery store. Because of this be sure to enjoy quickly!
- Another way to enjoy rather than just as a classic bagel is by slicing in half and using as the bread for a sandwich!
