There are endless pancakes toppings, but what are the best pancake toppings? Let’s go through a massive list and decide together.
Maple Syrup
Maple syrup is a classic. Look for a local seller for some really good syrup!
While we’re on the topic of classics, try using my Classic Waffle Recipe as pancakes!
Fresh Fruit
Any fruit takes your pancakes naturally sweeter. Adding fruit also adds some great nutrition to your breakfast!
Nuts
Nuts add a great variety of texture to your shortstack. Don’t get bogged down with the classics: slivered almonds or roasted peanuts you also need to try adding crushed pistachios, macadamia nuts, maybe even brazil nuts!
Butter
Sometimes a thick slab of plain old butter is the best pancake topping you can get.
Nut Butter
Nut butter is what I consider politically correct for those with different allergies. I prefer peanut butter on my pancakes but there’s also almond butter, nut-free butter, cashew butter, sunflower seed butter, etc.
Breakfast Syrup
Breakfast syrup is 100% different than maple syrup and I am not willing to argue on this one! Breakfast syrup is good now and again but once you get used to having maple syrup you’ll be able to see the worlds of difference in the taste.
Cool Whip
Whipped cream is also a great option, but I am partial to Cool Whip. It’s just so creamy and smooth.
Cinnamon Sugar
Cinnamon sugar is a fun combo to top off your stack of pancakes. It’s not something too commonly done, but give it a go and see if you’ll ever go back!
Sprinkles
Who says breakfast isn’t something to celebrate? Add some sprinkles to the pancake batter as they cook then top them off with a few more shakes for the ultimate breakfast surprise.
Sweet Sauces
There are so many different types of sweet sauces available now! There’s caramel, chocolate, hot fudge, raspberry, blueberry and I am sure a few more I’ve never heard of.
Marshmallows
Personally, mini marshmallows are the superior type of marshmallow but I won’t get mad at you if you add a few regular sized mallows to your cakes.
Crushed Graham Cracker
Imagine a pancake with marshmallows, chocolate sauce, and crushed graham cracker. That would probably be even better than a s’more!
Chocolate
I know I know, this statement is very general. There’s so many different forms of chocolate and guess what? They’re all accepted here as pancake toppings.
Yeah there’s chocolate syrup and chocolate chips but you’ve got to think outside the box! White chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, a caramel stuffed ghirardelli square!? Is it April? Use some Easter candy? The whole bunny? I mean the pancake to chocolate may be off but hey- give it a go!
Honey and Agave
These two are natural sweeteners that can easily sweeten up your breakfast without altering the flavor into something it isn’t.
Pumpkin
Picture this: It’s a brisk fall Saturday. The leaves are red, orange, and brown. You’re going apple picking soon. You have a fresh batch of pancakes in front of you. Top them with some pumpkin. It’s only right.
Apple Butter
Okay, you’re in the same scenario as above but you fall on the apple side of the fall apple vs. pumpkin debat.
Nutella
Come on! Nutella goes well with everything! There’s not much left to say. Add the Nutella.
Magic Shell
Magic shell is a chocolate (or other flavor) topping that you drizzle on, it hardens, then cracks. If you’ve never have it, I recommend you give it a try!
Maraschino Cherry
Whatever toppings you choose to add to your pancakes, make your last addition a maraschino cherry.
Jam/Jelly
Jams and jellies are something easy you nearly always have on hand. So if you’re in a pinch and need some pancake toppings, don’t forget these exist!
Brown Sugar
Be sure to add the brown sugar right after you take your pancakes off the griddle. You want to be sure the heat of the pancake is able to slightly melt the brown sugar.
Once it’s melted it is reminiscent of cinnamon sugar toast!
Eggs
Stick with me here. Why do pancakes need to be sweet? They are a great base to make it your own. That means adding some eggs will only round out your meal.
Ice Cream
Make yourself an XL pancake and add a scoop or two of ice cream to the center. Now you can fold your pancake up like a taco and you;ve got yourself a super sweet pancake and ice cream taco!
Pie Filling
A warm spoonful (or two) of your favorite pie filling will make you think you are actually eating your family’s favorite pie recipe!
Bacon or Sausage
This goes along with the eggs. If you aren’t ready to take the full leap into a runny egg on top of your pancakes, try having bacon or sausage. You’re probably already having them on the side so what’s the issue trying them as pancake toppings!?
