National Waffle Day is an unofficial holiday on August 24th.

If you’re like me you don’t even need a reason to have waffles! But, how could you let a national waffle holiday like this pass you by??

An easy way to celebrate National Waffle Day is by making a stack of Homemade Waffles. Skip the box mixes and the ‘just add water’ containers. Really make your own! It’s actually a whole lot easier than you would expect. Plus, you likely have everything you will need already in your cupboards.

Now, once you have your basic waffles made let’s jazz them up a bit!

You have to give Kate (from Veggie Desserts) Waffle Breakfast Sandwiches a try! It’s an unexpected combination of beans, egg, mushrooms, and arugula that come together to make a savory breakfast sandwich that’s still vegetarian!

Allergy free waflles on national waffle day

Not in the mood for a savory waffle celebration? Try out these Easy Oreo Waffles. It’s a fluffy Belgian waffle with crushed oreos right in the batter. This recipe doesn’t stop there! Once the waffle is cooked you top it with ice cream, even more oreos, and a drizzle of golden syrup. Talk about YUM!

Now I get it. There are so many people out there with different allergies and intolerances and these three recipes may not suit your needs.

Well Maya from Wholesome Yum has your back. She came up with a Keto Paleo Almond Flour recipe that is also gluten free! You can top this waffle with anything you desire that fits your specific diet needs!

Picture this: Multigrain Banana Waffles. It’s honestly kind of good for you. I mean, multigrains have fiber to help keep your blood sugar stable and keep you full and adding in additional fruit to your diet is always a bonus!

I can guarantee you’ve never even considered this next flavor combo. These Leftover Mashed Potato Waffles with Gravy will keep your taste buds wanting more.

I’m not sure about you but every time I make mashed potatoes there are always leftovers. This is a perfect way to reuse them with having to consume endless amount of the same dish.

Looking for something healthier yet will still satisfy your sweet tooth? Give these High Protein Chocolate Waffles a go! Their chocolate flavor will mask any protein taste. So all you will know is that they’re high protein AND delicious!

The National Waffle Day Celebration doesn’t have to stop at breakfast. Make a whole day of it! A Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffle would make an exciting lunch or themed dinner!

Syrup is good and all but a piece of fried chicken? I think that may top it!

National Waffle Day Add-On’s

I know it’s National Waffle Day but we can’t forget about waffle’s perfect pair: syrup.

I LOVE some local maple syrup. But, you can actually get it at a more reasonable price if your purchase a tub from a wholesale retailer like Costco or Sam’s Club. If you’re thinking this is a bit more than you need then you haven’t fallen into the hole of ‘healthier’ dessert recipes yet!

Many of these types of recipes will use maple syrup in place of the sweetener. In most cases this doesn’t reduce the calories, but maple syrup is a more wholesome ingredient rather than refined sugar.

Some other honorable mentions for waffle necessities are:

  • Fruit or preserves
  • Peanut Butter
  • Plain old butter
  • Eggs
  • Bacon
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Ice Cream
  • Chocolate Chips

Some more out-of-the-box options would be to use:

  • Cool Whip (a personal favorite)
  • Candy
  • Cinnamon Sugar
  • Chocolate or Caramel syrup
  • Nutella
  • Chili

National Waffle Day may only happen one day a year but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it a personal holiday. Not only can you celebrate by making yourself a waffle or having a variety of waffles all day long, you can also make a whole week of it! Try using a new waffle recipe every day to keep things intersting.
