When to Make This Recipe
This Simple Patriotic Pretzel recipe is tailored for the 4th of July celebration. You can use any red, white, and blue sprinkles you have.
You can make this recipe the day of your celebrations or you can make them in advance. This recipe hold up really well with time but of course, the fresher the better.
Patriotic Pretzel Ingredients
I love this recipe because the necessary ingredients are so minimal. They could be items you keep stocked in your pantry or they can be easily found in your local grocery store.
You’ll need:
Small pretzels: You can even replace these with rods if you prefer!
White Chocolate Chips: This recipe is different than others as many will use baking wafers. I prefer the taste of white chocolate chips, plus they are more reasonable to have on hand!
4th of July Sprinkles: These can be anything you like. Small balls, rods, sparkles, etc.
How to Make Patriotic Pretzels
These pretzels are simple to make and are a great treat that can be prepped ahead of time!
Prep your surface by laying down a piece of wax paper. This helps prevent too much sticking- and easy clean up!
Add white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe dish. Microwave until the chips easily melt and spread when you mix them.
Once the chocolate is ready to go grab your pretzels and dip them in! Immediately top with your desired sprinkles.
Next, you can allow them to harden on the counter for 30 minutes, or place them in the fridge or freezer for 10 minutes.
Once they are all set transfer them to your serving bowl. If you are making these ahead of time pop them in an airtight container. You can store them on the counter at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
Expert Tips and Tricks
Prepare your station. Melted chocolate chips harden fast! Be sure to have your pretzels and sprinkles on the ready!
Working with melted chocolate chips can be tricky. Add a teaspoon of coconut oil to your chocolate chips when melting them. This will help melt them into a soft consistency.
Use wax paper as a placemat. This ensure an easy clean-up and the chocolate coated pretzels won’t get stuck to it.
A Word from a Registered Dietitian
The holidays can bring about massive amounts of treats. There’s nothing wrong with indulging, but making small, intentional changes can make a difference.
By making chocolate covered pretzels instead of a 4th of July cake, for example, means there will be at least one sweet treat at your gathering that provides some refrain from the plethora of heavy desserts there are sure to be.
