You might see a matcha chia seed pudding and immediately make a face, but hang in there! It may not be your favorite food on your first try but I can assure you that you’ll soon fall in love.
What is Chia Seed Pudding?
Chia seed pudding is a simple, fiber-filled snack that can take on the flavor it’s paired with! If you’ve never tried chia pudding before I would recommend you try it with familiar flavors you know you like. This could mean pairing it with:
- Fresh or frozen fruit
- Nutella
- Honey
- Nuts
What Is Matcha?
No, matcha isn’t powdered grass. (LOL) It’s really just green tea leaves that have been finely ground.
The quality of matcha can vary GREATLY. A matcha latte from Starbucks will taste extremely different from one made with ceremonial-grade (ideal) matcha powder. When looking for a distinction, the ceremonial grade matcha will have a more vibrant green color with smaller bubbles.
Matcha has an earthy and bright taste, which is on the other end of the spectrum from coffee’s bitter taste. So, if you aren’t a coffee fan you can still get your morning caffeine-kick with matcha. Matcha has less caffeine than a cup of coffee but it’s a more sustained energy. This means that you won’t experience the mid-day crash.
Matcha Chia Seed Pudding and Your Health
A matcha chia seed pudding is definitely light in calories. A serving of this matcha chia seed pudding has about 100 calories. I wouldn’t recommend having just this as a meal but it can definitely be a part of a healthy meal or as a snack!
Although low in calories you will be getting some fiber, vitamin A, calcium, and vitamin C.
This recipe can easily be made to fit nearly any dietary restrictions!
Dairy-free? Use a non-dairy milk
Gluten-free? Some matcha powder are and some are not. Be sure to confirm this based on which matcha you own!
Vegan? Just use a non-dairy milk!
Vegetarian? You’re in luck! It’s naturally vegetarian!
This is something you can feel good about including in your day.
Matcha Chia Seed Pudding
Now that you know the two major components of a matcha chia seed pudding, you can start making yourself a batch!
Start by combining the chia seeds with your choice of milk, vanilla, and maple syrup to a medium sized bowl. Next, use a whisk to mix the two together.
After this, add in your matcha powder of choice and whisk again to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
Grab the containers you want to add your pudding to. I reused some glass containers I had purchased yogurt in! You could also put it in a mason jar or tupperware to make this a more convenient snack!
