May 6th is International No Diet Day. You’re probably asking yourself what that even means? International No Diet Day stands as a reminder that every body is different and the acceptance of it. As a society we need to not glamorize thinner bodies as being superior. Once an overall acceptance of ALL body shapes and sizes are shown value then there would be less pressure to be thinner in order to be valued.
Someone can be overweight and malnourished just as someone underweight can be malnourished. May 6th is a day to celebrate the facts that we all have different genetics and are predisposed to be a certain way. We accept that genetics gives up our hair color, height, and eye color. Why can’t we accept that weight is apart of genetics too? You can control your weight, but maybe that means having to under eat in order to be where you want. Is the constant feeling of hunger worth it? Diets don’t work. Nearly everyone who attempts a diet will fail. Then gain additional weight back. Instead, getting adequate exercise and intuitive eating will place your body in a happy state where it can function properly.
Let’s allow International No Diet Day to impact us. Carry a bit of it with you everyday. Let it stand as a reminder to love your body, no matter its shape or size. Let it stand as a reminder that you don’t need to diet to look a certain way. Most importantly, let it stand as a reminder that a diet is not the answer.
