Oatmeal is stereotyped as the ultimate healthy breakfast choice, but there are so many other ideas out there! A healthy breakfast has protein, carbs, healthy fats, and hopefully some fiber!
1. Fruit and Yogurt Parfait
A fruit and yogurt parfait is my personal go-to for breakfast. They’re just so simple! Did I mention it includes granola?! I mean who doesn’t love a good chunky granola!
2. Protein Pancakes
Your pancakes don’t have to be the protein variety to be healthy. Have some good ‘ole regular pancakes, but be sure to pair it with a source of protein like a couple eggs to make for a breakfast that is going to keep you full until lunch.
3. Omelette with Toast
Omelettes are great because you can throw whatever you have on-hand in them and they’re sure to turn out delicious. Pair it with your favorite toast, too.
4. Healthy Jumbo Breakfast Muffins
Humble brag, but my Healthy Jumbo Breakfast Muffins are the perfect on-the-go breakfast. They are bigger than your average muffin so it is actually filling. Plus, there’s hidden veggies so your nutrient intake just skyrocketed before you even made it in to work.
5. Breakfast Tacos
A delicious change-up from what you probably normally have!
6. Protein Smoothie
Protein smoothies aren’t the most satisfying, but you can fit a big amount of nutrition in them.
7. Avocado Toast
Avocado toast isn’t just for an overpriced brunch restaurant. The combination of avocado, whole-grain toast, and an egg or two is a healthy and satisfying combo any RDN would recommend!
8. Shakshuka
This is a newly popular savory breakfast dish that originating in North Africa. It’s a skillet of tomato sauce, poached eggs, and spices.
9. Bagel Sandwich
Make your own bagels using my 2-ingredient Simple Sesame Seed recipe then add in a turkey sausage patty, over-medium egg, and a slice of your favorite cheese. This winning combo is a healthy and filling breakfast that can be taken on the go!
10. Quiche
There’s nothing better than a homemade quiche- plus they’re healthy!
11. Chicken Sausage, Hashbrowns, and Eggs
Chicken sausage is much better for you than your classic bacon. It’s becoming more and more available now, too! If you can’t seem to find it in your grocery store then your next best option is turkey sausage.
12. Chia Pudding
Combine chia seeds with milk and let it chill in your fridge overnight. This combo has about 50 calories MAX, so this is more of an ‘in-addition’ type of dish.
13. Cereal
Most cereals aren’t healthy. That’s just the hard truth. But, there are some good options available. I like to pair a bowl (or 3) of All-Bran corn flakes with frozen blueberries. It’s delicious and not stuffed with added sugars!
Don’t forget- if you’re not using a milk with a good amount of protein, be sure to pair it with some. One option may be some hard boiled eggs.
14. Banana Bread with Peanut Butter
Make a batch of healthy banana bread and smear it with peanut butter for a delicious breakfast! This isn’t the heathies of loaves but give my banana bread recipe a try!
15. Mini Waffles
Waffles are always great, but a mini waffle just seems so much better for some reason! Try this Homemade Waffle recipe and use a mini waffle maker. Pair with your favorite fruit and maybe some scrambled eggs and you’ve got yourself a fun yet balanced breakfast!
16. Homemade Breakfast Sandwiches
Who needs Jimmy Dean when you can make your own breakfast sandwiches? You can prep a week worths of homemade breakfast sandwiches in a matter of minutes.
All you have to do is toast your english muffins, cook your sausage, then melt some cheese on an egg. Put it all together and put in an individual plastic bag. Let them cook before zipping them close and throw them in the freezer.
Boom! Just like that you’ve got a week of breakfasts that don’t include oatmeal!
17. Savory Crepes
Crepes don’t just have to be for special occasions! They’re so easy to make and can be enjoyed with a number of flavor combos.
18. Grandpa Eggs with Fruit
Grandpa eggs aren’t a common term. Actually, it’s pretty unlikely you’ve ever heard of it because it’s something my family made up.
Basically, all you have to do is crack some eggs into a mug, scramble them up, then pop them in the microwave for a minute or two! Easy!
19. French Toast
French toast goes from a healthy breakfast to a sweet treat real quick. Use peanut butter or yogurt with fruit to top your breakfast rather than maple syrup or my favorite, Cool Whip.
20. Breakfast Quesadilla
So now you know about breakfast tacos. Breakfast quesadillas are the same concept but place one tortilla on your pan and add your ingredients then top with a second tortilla.
21. Grab’n’go Breakfast Cookies
There are TONS of breakfast cookie recipes all over Pinterest. They make you feel like you’re having a dessert for breakfast; also like a dessert, it won’t keep you full.
Try pairing some breakfast cookies with a protein and fiber for a more satisfying breakfast!
22. Banana Cinnamon Rolls with Peanut Butter Frosting
I know you’re thinking it, “how are Banana Cinnamon Rolls with Peanut Butter Frosting healthy?”. Well, you’re right, they’re not. But they are delicious. And I can’t recommend them enough. Besides, you’ve got 21 other healthy recipes to pick from so I thought adding in one of my favorites wouldn’t hurt!
